Elkhart, Indiana - Virginia A. Anglemyer, 94, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.
She was born May 4, 1925, in Middletown, Ohio to Arthur and Norine (Warfel) Shinolt.
She attended Middlebury and Roosevelt schools and was a 1943 graduate of Elkhart High School.
Virginia worked at Fannie May Candies and Kresge's during the war. Ginny then went to work at Buescher's Band Instruments as a secretary and during this time, she met her future husband Harry. They were married Oct. 5, 1946, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1996.
She retired as secretary of Castle United Methodist Church in Elkhart after 30 years.
Ginny and Harry enjoyed traveling and were named an "Arkansas Traveler" by then governor and former President Bill Clinton. Ginny looked forward to the monthly "Class of 43" breakfast with fellow grads. Spending holidays at Cook's Cabin in Brown County was an enjoyable experience for all.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sue Weldy of Elkhart; granddaughter Christina (Gene) Cook; two step great-grandsons; three step great-great-grandchildren and one step great-great-great-granddaughter.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband and son-in-law.
She was a charter member of Faith United Methodist church in Goshen. She was a 77-year member of Elkhart Temple #14 Pythian Sisters and in 1990 was elected to serve as Grand Chief of Indiana, the highest state office of the Pythian Sisters.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. A Pythian Sister Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday March 11, 2020, at the funeral home. The Rev. John Hogsett will preside and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
Memorial contributions may be directed to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County, the American Lung Association, the Wounded Warrior Project or Habitat for Humanity.
Her family is grateful for the love and kindness of the ER staff, CCU nurses, Chad, Nick, Cari, Heather, Erin, James, and others, ICU nurses Fred and Amanda and a special appreciation to Kalise, Connie, Stacey, Monique and Maralee.
