Shipshewana, IN - Verna Mae (Lehman) Kuhns, age 86 years, 8 months & 5 days of Shipshewana, (district: 49-2), passed away peacefully at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, March 7.

She was born on July 2, 1939, in Centreville, Michigan, to Amos and Lizzie Ann (Hochstetler) Lehman.

On Oct. 29, 1964, she married Alvin L. Kuhns. They lived in holy matrimony for 61 years and 4 months.

To this union were born 4 sons, David (Ruby) Kuhns of Shipshewana, John (Wanda) Kuhns of Bremen, Wilbur Dean Kuhns (deceased), and Allen (Jan) Kuhns of South Carolina; 5 daughters, Lori Ann Kuhns of Shipshewana, Lizzie (Loren) Hochstetler of Nappanee, Becky (Leonard) Schwartz of Shipshewana, Alma Kuhns of Goshen, and Rose (Enos) Yoder of Sturgis, Michigan; 29 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are 2 brothers, Ervin (Jane) Lehman of Tennessee and Alvin (Inez) Lehman of Shipshewana; 1 sister, Freda (Sam) Bontrager of Colon, Michigan; 3 sisters-in-law, Leora Lehman, Anna Marie Lehman, and Lizzie (Wilbur) Miller, all of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son; 1 grandson, Daniel Joseph Schwartz; 1 sister, Ruby Miller; 3 brothers, Mahlon, Wilbur; and infant brother, Lehman.

Verna was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, and all day Monday, March 9, at the Leonard and Becky Schwartz residence, 8195 W. SR 120, Shipshewana.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at the same residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Levi E. Miller and the home ministers.

Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Shipshewana.
