Goshen, Indiana - Steve Kauffman, 85, of Goshen, passed away on Sept. 21.
He was born June 27, 1940, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Alfred and Arie (Slabach) Kauffman.
On Dec. 20, 1959, he married Nila Ramer, who survives.
Steve is also survived by one son, Barry (Lynette) Kauffman of Goshen; one daughter, Gail (Bob) Maas of LaGrange; five grandchildren, AJ (Tiffany) Kauffman, Bryan (Ingrid) Kauffman, David (Sarah) Maas, Sarah (Anthony) Bressler, and Jim (Cara) Maas; two step-grandchildren, Jason (Leah) Zimmerman and Adam (Missy) Zimmerman; and eight great-grandchildren as well as eight step great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one sister, Shirley Lanfear of Georgia; and two brothers, Nelson Kauffman of LaGrange and Ron (Jane) Kauffman of Howe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Erma Swatzendruber Stutzman.
Steve began farming in 1965 and owned and operated Deer Grove Farms since 1970.
He was also an avid fast-pitch softball player in Goshen for many years and was well known for his story telling abilities. He also participated in the Mennonite Disaster Relief.
He was a faithful member of Pleasant View Church.
Visitation will be held from 24 p.m. and 68 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Pleasant View Church, Goshen, as well as one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Burial will follow the funeral at Pleasant View Cemetery.
