Shirley J. Brew

Shirley J. Brew age 84 of Sturgis, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, Michigan.
Shirley was born on March 3, 1941, a daughter to the late Erwin and Helen (Sprowl) Stewart. Shirley graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1958. She lived most of her life in the Colon and Sturgis areas.
On September 27, 1958, Shirley married Dennis W. Brew in Colon, Michigan. Dennis preceded Shirley in death on September 7, 2017. They were married 58 years.
Shirley loved to do puzzles, crossword puzzles, watch her gameshows, play bingo, and work in her flowerbeds. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and bowling.
Surviving Shirley are her children: Butch (Lorinda) Brew of Millersburg, Ind., Mike (Heather) Brew of Sturgis, Jennifer (Gary) Gage of Sturgis, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sister Sharon Wogoman of Syracuse Ind., and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Erwin and Helen Stewart, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Dennis W. Brew and a daughter Terry Gorbutt.
The Brew family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon, Michigan. A funeral service celebrating Shirley's life will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, Mach 21, 2025, following the visitation with pastor Terry Siler officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be directed to Thurston Woods Village. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
