ELKHART - Ruby R. Akers, 95, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, while surrounded by her family.
Ruby was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Harvey, North Dakota, to the late Jacob and Rosina (Delzer) Buchwitz.
Ms. Akers is survived by her daughters, Ruth "Terry" (Rex) Howard, Elkhart, and Sherry (Asher) Akers, Oakdale, California; sons, William "Bob" Akers, Tucson, Arizona, and Patrick M. (Anne) Akers, Howe; brothers, Irvin (Darlene) Buchwitz, and George (Loretta) Buchwitz, both of Harvey, North Dakota; sisters, Lulu Fosberg and Ella Mae Wood, also of Harvey; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her life partner of 47 years, Mr. Keith Riegsecker, Goshen.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Ruby's arrangements have been entrusted to Walley-Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home.
She loved animals, especially horses. Her family would like to request that contributions be made in her memory to The SPCA International Group, PO Box 8682 New York, NY 10001.
In keeping with Ruby's wishes a private memorial service will commence at a later date.
