Goshen, IN - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Lee Greaser Souder, who died peacefully on July 1, at the age of 80 in Goshen.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Born on June 5, 1945 in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Horace and Beulah (Greaser) Souder.

He graduated from Souderton High School in 1963 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Goshen College in 1970 followed by a Master's degree from IUSB in both education and counseling.

He dedicated 36 years of his life to teaching, coaching, and counseling in Elkhart Community Schools. He also enjoyed working at Essenhaus for 29 years and he also enjoyed being a Middlebury School board member for multiple years.

Bob grew up in the Rockhill Mennonite Church in Telford, Pennsylvania.

Bob did his voluntary service work through Mennonite Central Committee for 2 years, 1965-1967 in Atlanta, Georgia where he worked at a preschool and after-school program. This changed his life!

He faithfully served God and the church using the gifts God had given him.

He was a devoted husband to Ada (Beyer) Souder for 56 years, married on July 20, 1968 in Souderton, PA and a loving father to Kimberly (Rick) Barrett and Jerome (Nancy) Souder.

He was also a cherished grandfather to Joshua Barrett, Hannah Souder, Elijah Barrett, and Rachel Barrett.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and younger brother, Rick; and his wife, Nancy.

He had a passion for many sports and he enjoyed golfing and playing card games.

He was also known for never meeting a stranger.

He will be remembered for mentoring younger people and his kind and gentle heart.

Bob was a longtime member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church, where he had many roles.

The family would like to thank the staff at Waterford Crossing Legacy Way for all their love and care he received.

Visitation will be Monday, July 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and on Tuesday, July 8, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Sunnyside Mennonite Church, Elkhart.

Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mennonite Central Committee in his name.
