Goshen, Indiana - Robert E. "Bob" Wenger, Goshen, died at Majestic Care, Goshen at 12:10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, at the age of 94.

He was born on June 5, 1931 in Goshen, to Warren and Mary Elizabeth (Holtzinger) Wenger.

He married Marilyn Jo Holdeman on March 9, 1952 at Brenneman Memorial United Missionary Church, Goshen.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, Goshen; a sister, June Wenger McCarron, Goshen; sons, Jerry (Pamela) Wenger, Bristol; Joel Wenger, Goshen; Jay (Joan) Wenger, Goshen; a daughter, Janae (Andrew) Lemmert, Bolingbrook, Illinois; grandchildren, Melissa (Samuel) Bardales Wenger, Lima, Peru; Todd (Brittany) Wenger, Noblesville, Indiana; Megan (Matthew) Barnes, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kimberly Voth, Goessel, Kansas; Josh (Diana) Voth, Bird In Hand, Pennsylvania; Austin Wenger, Goshen; Emily Wenger, Goshen; Hannah Lemmert, Sarah Lemmert, Rachel Lemmert and Rebecca Lemmert, all of Bolingbrook, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Micaiah Bardales, Kaeden Bardales and Adalyn Bardales, all of Lima, Peru; Evelyn Barnes and Calla Barnes, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a son-in-law: Timothy Voth, Goessel, Kansas.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a daughter, Jolynn Voth.

Robert served the U.S. Army in Korea, attaining the rank of corporal.

He was a retired rural letter carrier, accumulating more than 30 years as a federal employee. He also served several years as Union Steward, representing the Goshen Post Office.

He was a long-time member of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, where he taught fourth grade boys Sunday School for several years.

Having grown up on a farm, Robert continued in that vein, purchasing a farm of his own, raising hogs and sheep and milking cows for most of his adult life.

He had taught himself to weld and operated Wenger Welding and Repair, serving the equipment repair needs of local farmers.

He worked alongside his father, buying and selling fur, continuing that for many years after his father passed away.

A novelty for a few years was running sugar camp on his farm, producing maple syrup.

As a service to the community, Robert was assistant Township Trustee under his father for eight years, following that as Township Trustee for another eight years.

Although he wasn't one to freely express his emotions, his family knew that he loved them and wanted them to be the best individuals they could be. He expected his children to become independent, productive members of society, teaching them at an early age that not only was working hard a good thing to do, but doing your best at whatever you did was absolutely essential. He insisted in a sense of personal pride in work well done and a desire to pass that attitude along to future generations.
