Raymond G. "Gene" Kitson, 87, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Miller's Merry Manor in Warsaw.
He was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Syracuse, to Raymond H. and Mary Erin (Flemming) Kitson.
He graduated in 1949 from Syracuse High School, attended Purdue University in West Lafayette. He was a United States Air Force veteran.
He was married June 18, 1955, in Syracuse, to Peggy Sue Elliott, who survives.
He was formerly employed at New Paris Lumber, retired as a mail carrier for the Syracuse Post Office after 27 years and worked at Ace Hardware in Syracuse after his retirement. He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident until he moved to Warsaw in December 2017.
He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse and was an official for high school baseball and basketball for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kitson, Warsaw; twin daughters, Mary Kitson, Kingsland, Georgia, and Marie (Barb Boyd) Kitson, St. Mary's Georgia; son, Alan (Penny) Kitson, Warsaw; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard "Dick" Kitson.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home with Alan Kitson and Pastor David Henry officiating.
Burial and military graveside rites will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.
