New Paris, Indiana - Pauline Letherman, age 97 of New Paris, IN, died Wednesday morning, March 18, 2026 at her residence. Pauline was born on May 14, 1928 to Daniel and Elizabeth (Moore) Ummel. On February 5, 1949, Pauline married Kenneth W. Letherman. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2008. She lived most of her life in Wakarusa and was a graduate of Wakarusa High School. She went on to graduate from Olivet School of Music. Pauline started playing the piano at the age of 3. From the age of 13, up until she was 70, Pauline played piano and organ for many churches and local events. She taught piano for 10 years and 3 of her students went on to be concert pianists, 1 of which traveled the world playing piano. Pauline composed over 23 hymns and continued to play piano until her sickness and death. Pauline had attended Nappanee Missionary Church. Above all, Pauline loved her Lord, and her family. She loved her children deeply and cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pauline is survived by her 2 children: David Lee (Mary) Letherman of Milford, IN and Brenda (Joe Williams) Letherman of Tulsa, OK; 4 grandchildren: Jason Letherman of Wellston, MI, Matthew Bo (Andrea) Letherman of Goshen, IN; Traci Kammerer, of Bourbon, IN, and Rick (Annette) Christner of Milford, IN; 4 great grandchildren: Keihen (Haley) Hanley of Bourbon, Trey Kammerer of Bourbon, IN, Braylon Letherman of Goshen, and Darcy Christner of Milford, IN; and 2 sisters: Donna (John) Cuthbert, of Prescott, AZ and Judy (Joe) Pruitt of Albuquerque, NM. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings: twin brother, Paul Ummel, Patricia Martin, Lenna Colell, and David Ummel. A two-hour Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 10 am - Noon on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, IN. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions in Pauline's name can be given to the Nappanee Missionary Church Student Ministry or the Bethany Community Church Youth.
