GOSHEN Pauline Lucille Hoogenboom, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 at Greencroft Healthcare where she had resided since June 2014.
She was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Goshen to Simon and Florabelle (Taylor) Mitterling.
On April 24, 1947, in Goshen she married Hubert Hoogenboom. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Clara Moyer, Lloyd Mitterling, LaDonna Flauding and Roberta Hout.
Surviving are four children, Marcia (Ross) Kehr and Doug (Tracie) Hoogenboom, both of Goshen, Tom (Lois) Hoogenboom of Elkhart and Dianne (Richard) Cons of Tempe, Arizona; five grandchildren, Kaylen Cons and Robin Cons, both of Tempe, Arizona, Nathan Kehr and Evan Kehr, both of Goshen, and Trevor Schuh of Elkhart; and five great-grandchildren.
Pauline grew up in Goshen and Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School in 1945. She was a member of Greene Road Church. While raising her family, she worked at the Goshen Credit Bureau, Steury Boat Co., and retired from Homecrest. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Oaklawn and The Window.
As members of the Happy Wanderers Club, Pauline and Hubert enjoyed taking many bus trips, and she particularly enjoyed going to the Cubs games in Chicago. She also enjoyed spending time with her daughter Dianne and family in Tempe, Arizona. She was an excellent cook who loved her family fiercely, and loved a good joke. She will be remembered for making people laugh with her quick wit.
A celebration of life service for both Hubert and Pauline will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Greene Road Church, with a fellowship time one hour prior to the service.
Per her wishes, Pauline has been cremated. Interment of both Hubert and Pauline will be held at a later date in West Goshen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Greene Road Church or Goshen Health Home Care and Hospice. The family would like to thank Pastor Dave VanDerWiele of the Greene Road Church, the staff at Greencroft Health Care, and Goshen Home Care and Hospice for their loving care of our mom and grandma.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
