Noreen J. Penney, 68, passed away Sunday, July 30, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born June 14, 1949, in Ishpeming, Michigan, Norton and Eleanor (Maronen) Whitlock. After her mother passed, she was raised by her father and mother, Minnie (Smith) Whitlock.
On June 21, 1969, in Elkhart, she married Dan Penney. He survives along with three children, Cindy Penney, Jeff (Sarah) Penney and Steven (Doreen) Penney. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Shailyn (Ben) Mathews, Weston Wright, Allie Rothgeb, Wendy Lambdin, Leslie Penney and Mara Penney; and a sister, Linda (Bill) Akright.
She was preceded in death by all of her parents and two sisters, Eleanor and Marjorie.
A celebration of life service will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elkhart, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Noreen was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; member of Delta Theta Chi Sorority; volunteered at ADEC; served on the board of Special Olympics in Elkhart County; and was a Boy and Girl Scout Troop Leader. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors, traveling, camping, visiting the mountains, reading, collecting rocks and taking pictures. She also was very patriotic.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
