Miss Sheila Marie Brown, 56, of Syracuse, passed away on April 6, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sheila was surrounded by her loving family at her home in Syracuse at the time of her passing.

She was born on June 18, 1968, to Mr. James H. Funderburg and the late Mrs. Bertie L. Funderburg.

Sheila was a loving mother to Hannah Funderburg; son, James (Taylor) Funderburg; and Dianna Watson (Richard Braddock). She was also a most beloved grandmother of eleven to Joseph, Nori, Chloe, Maya, Colton, Jersey, Maycen, Ellie, Riley, and Stephanie. Sheila will be deeply missed by Larry Brown; and by her father, Mr. James H. Funderburg; her siblings, Mykel Floyd, Renee Funderburg; and Theresa (Eric) Smith; as well as by her extended family and friends too numerous to name.

Throughout her life, Sheila held various roles, showcasing her hardworking nature and dedication. From being a hostess-waitress and cook and mom at the tender age of 18 at Waffle House in Memphis, TN, she worked her way up to owning her own restaurant, the Maple Leaf Cafe, in Goshen. Sheila's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly.

She served as an office custodian for Syracuse Police Department, briefly, and as a waitress, cook, and bartender for several local establishments in Syracuse. She was employed as the cook for The Window in Goshen for several years.

Most recently, and up to two weeks prior to her passing she volunteered and worked for New Hope Pet Rescue in Syracuse. She worked tirelessly alongside other staff to ensure animals were cared for and found loving homes.

In her free time, Sheila enjoyed gardening, cooking, hosting cookouts, fishing, spending time with her grandchildren, and playing pranks on her loved ones, neighbors, friends and coworkers. She had a warm and welcoming spirit, always ready to help those in need and share a good laugh with anyone who crossed her path.
