Elkhart, Indiana - Mikel Troy Marker, 62, of Elkhart, IN, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, January 17th, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with sarcoma. Mikel was known by his family for his stubborn determination and ability to find humor in any situation. He faced every challenge, including this one, with grace, strength, and a good joke. His strong will was evident as he fought until the end.
He married Carolyn S. Meyer on March 25th, 2020, in a simple ceremony at a friend's pond in Tippecanoe, Indiana.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn S. Marker; his parents, David L. Marker and Beverly E. Marker; four children, Nolan W. Marker, Alec W. Marker, Ethan M. Marker, and Savannah G. (Tanner C.) Leininger; three stepchildren, Devon G. Rahe, Hayden P. Rahe, Shelby P. Rahe and granddaughter Ruby Rose Lehman; his brother, Adam Marker, and sister, Jody Marker Thompson; three nephews, Nicholas Marker, Shawn Marker, and James Thompson, and niece Courtney Thompson; and former wife and mother of his children, Alicia M. Marker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Marker, who passed away in August 2024.
Mikel graduated from Goshen High School in 1981 before attending Ball State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
A devoted father, Mikel offered unwavering love and support to his children. He was a skilled craftsman with a passion for building furniture and functional art and was employed by Hedge House Furniture until his passing. He was also a member of the Goshen Woodworkers Guild. Mikel possessed an exceptionally sharp mind and attention to detail. A compassionate man with a progressive outlook, he remained deeply committed to his values throughout his life.
Mikel and Carolyn shared a love for travel, exploring many destinations across North America, with plans to visit the rest of the National Parks. He also enjoyed kayaking and motorcycle riding in his free time.
Services celebrating the life of Mikel T. Marker will be held on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Conrad Mast of Hively Avenue Mennonite Church will officiate. Per his wishes, cremation was chosen. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
