Max Barney Winslow Doering, 94, Wakarusa, died 6:40 a.m. Sunday, June 9, at Miller's Merry Manor.
He was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Wakarusa, to Charles V. and Marjorie I. (Winslow) Doering.
He married Joan (Abbott) Doering, Nov. 27, 1947, and she died July 10, 2014.
Surviving are children, Von (Cathy) Doering, Warsaw, and Lynn Miller, Nappanee; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Shearer, Elkhart; and a brother, Dean Doering, Indianapolis.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Joan; son, Kurt Doering; and brothers, George Doering and James Doering.
Max was a 1942 graduate of Wakarusa High School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was discharged in 1946. He served in the Navy Reserves from 1946-1950.
Max worked as a Union Electrician for Baugo Electric. He enjoyed traveling, camping, trout fishing, hunting, conservation work (fly-fishing tying), amateur radio and enjoyed life.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Friday, June 14, all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Pastor Ruben Chupp will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive (West) Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Elkhart Conservation Club.
