Marjorie Ellen (Klotz) Berkey Obituary

Nappanee, Indiana - Marjorie was born to Harold W. and Iva Marie (Mikel) Klotz in Scott Township, Kosciusko County, Nappanee, on Aug. 5, 1931.

She married Harold Leroy Berkey on Aug. 6, 1950, at Nappanee Missionary Church.

Marjorie graduated from Pleasant Valley School south of Nappanee.

They had three children, Patty (Karol) Beachy, Bruce (Sue) Berkey, and David (Jenny) Berkey, all of Nappanee; Mario (Sarah) DeFrietas of Wakarusa and Angie (Wilford) Marek of Bremen, Germany; along with many others who lived in their home, who also called her Mom.

She is survived by 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Lou Dougherty.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harold Berkey; grandson Christopher Berkey; her father, Harold W. Klotz; her mother, Iva Marie (Mikel) Klotz; sister, Thelma; and brothers, Harold Klotz Jr., Paul, and Carl Klotz.

Marjorie was a member of Millwood Chapel Church for 56 years, where she taught VBS and Sunday School, played piano, and graded Bible Mailbox Club lessons for CEM Ministries of Elkhart County.

She was also a member of Southwest Bible Church and later attended Living Gospel Church in Nappanee.

She served as a cook at NorthWood High School for many years. She loved her coworkers and found joy in serving and talking with the students.

Her heart was always devoted to prayer; and in her later years, she became especially devoted to studying God's Word and lifting up others before the Lord.

She treasured gathering with a group from Living Gospel Church for prayer and Bible study, faithfully praying for missionaries around the world, her church community, and especially her family.

She deeply loved her family and stayed closely connected to them throughout her life.

One of her simple joys was Sunday mornings spent watching church services from several local churches and worshiping from home.

She greatly missed her husband, Harold and looked forward with quiet confidence to the day the Lord would take her home to be with her kind and Heavenly Father.

That hope was evident in the way she spoke and the way she lived.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 9-11 a.m. at Nappanee Missionary Church.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., also at the church.

Burial will follow at Rock Run Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marjorie's name can be given to the Gideons.
