Mabel Anna Nisley, 92, Middlebury, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at her residence.

She was born April 14, 1927 in Columbiana, Ohio, to John J. and Merta (Ziegler) Martin.

After graduating from North Lima High School, Ohio, in 1945, she received her bachelor's degree from Goshen College and her master's degree from the University of Notre Dame in art.

On July 5, 1952, in Goshen, she married LeRoy Nisley. He died July 23, 1999.

She taught art at Bethany Christian High School for 24 years, retiring in 1992. The design elements and principles in nature were of spiritual interest to her.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda (Daniel) Bontrager; a son, Kenneth Nisley, both of Middlebury; two grandsons, Joshua Nisley, Caleb (Sharayaha) Nisley, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Betty Martin, Dalton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Martin; and two brothers, John and Glen Martin.

She had been a member of Middlebury Church of the Brethren since 1996.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday, Sept. 9 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Janet Shaver. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorials may be given to Middlebury Church of the Brethren Building Fund or Bethany Christian Schools.
