Carmel, IN - Larry Seabrook Landis, 79, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025.
Born in Princeton, New Jersey, on November 2, 1945, to Donald Edward Landis and Caroline "Sally" Magalhaes Landis, Larry entered the world just weeks after World War II ended while his father was serving in the Army. He grew up in Goshen, Indiana, alongside his sisters, Carolyn and Pam, forming lifelong friendships that endured more than 70 years.
A 1963 graduate of Goshen High School, Larry attended Wabash College on a full academic scholarship, earning degrees in Political Science and Economics and graduating cum laude in 1967. He later began doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before answering a call to serve during the Vietnam era.
Larry's career spanned politics, marketing, and public service. He worked on campaigns for Bill Ruckelshaus, Bill Salin, and Virginia Blankenbaker, and was the first paid staff member for Richard Lugar's Indianapolis mayoral campaign. He later founded two communications firms, Marketrends and American Grassroots, and served 11 years on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, appointed by Governors Frank O'Bannon and Mitch Daniels.
Larry married Carol Louise (Butz) Landis in 1974, and together they shared 50 years of marriage marked by faith, generosity, and joy. He was a devoted father to Christopher (Heather) Landis and proud grandfather to Lauren, Anna, and Emily.
A longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Larry was active in the Christian Endeavors group and taught Disciple Bible Study classes. He also supported the Indiana Historical Society, Heartland Film, Wabash College, and Indiana 211.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, and several in-laws. Survivors include his son and family, sisters Pam (Gary) Bollier and Carolyn (Rick) Guipe, and extended family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 12-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Robertson Chapel, officiated by Dr. Carolyn Scanlan-Holmes. The service will be streamed online from the church's website for those that can't make it in person. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wabash College, the Indiana Historical Society, Heartland Film, or St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home.
