Elkhart, Indiana - Keith Victor McCollough, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Friday March 20, at Hubbard Hill Estates. He was born in Elkhart Oct. 26, 1932, to Bessie (Jennings) and Clark McCollough.
Keith graduated from Elkhart High School in 1950. On July 17, 1953, he married Bonnie Landis at the McCoy Memorial Baptist Church in Elkhart. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict along with his brother Jack. They served together for two years before being separated. Keith spent most of that time in Yokosuka, Japan, as a storekeeper. After his return from the Navy he studied to get his Realtor's license. He was very active in the Elkhart Board of Realtors and was the first president of Elkhart Multiple Listing Service when it was formed in 1968.
He also had his own realty company, McCollough Realty Inc. He later was made head of the realty; construction side of McCollough Construction dealing with the industrial building side of the business.
When McCollough Construction was sold in 1974, he went back to his own realty company, which he ran for three years until he sold that and was made president of Mid States Construction. After a number of years, he left there and formed McCollough/Scholten Construction and was there until his retirement in 2000.
Keith is survived by his wife Bonnie of 66 years; his four children, Julie (Juul) Scholten of Bristol, Richard (Peggy) McCollough of Elkhart, Tim (Carol) McCollough of Bristol and Rodney (Tina) McCollough of Edwardsburg, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jack, Lloyd and Devon "Chuck" McCollough; and three sisters, Jean Lyon, Ilene Johnston and Doris McCollough.
Keith was also a buyer and manager for W.W. Wilt Supermarkets, opening many stores in the Elkhart and South Bend area. He enjoyed living on Simonton Lake and spending time with his family. Keith was a member of the Adamsville Road Church of God, the Elkhart Elks Lodge 425, Christiana Creek Country Club and the VFW.
Due to the coronavirus and limitations on social gatherings, visitation and services for Keith will be limited to family only. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 26, at the Adamsville Road Church of God. Denny Olson will preside and burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery, where the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will render military honors.
