June Loretta (Belt) Christian Goodman was born in Elkhart, on May 19, 1928, and passed in her sleep at age 95 at Hamilton Trace Nursing Home in Fishers, IN on April 29.
A devout Christian, she lived her beliefs in her daily life. She was the embodiment of humility and kindness, extending herself with ease and grace to her family, friends, church or Hubbard Hill Nursing Home where she volunteered. She was a quiet inspiration to others by living her own truth.
She was always an Elkhart girl. Growing up in the country, she learned to love nature and flowers, a love she passed on to all of her children. In her younger years she planted bountiful gardens and grew beautiful flowers. Although she traveled with her family throughout the United States, her most happy places were closer to home...Silver Lake in Michigan and the Warren Dunes in Indiana. She loved spending time laughing and creating memories in the sand and water of Lake Michigan.
June was also a great cook and was famous for her feathery fudge cake with its copious amounts of butter and chocolate, reserved for birthdays, year in and year out. Her gentility, humor and integrity are her more lasting legacy in addition to her many children, grandchildren and stepchildren.
June was preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Thomas Christian and Edward Goodman.
Surviving her are her children, Linda (Richard) Steele of Fishers, Rebecca Christian of Goshen, Catherine Christian (Rodney Dixon), Timothy Christian (James Maurer) and Rodney Christian, all of Minneapolis, MN. Also surviving are grandchildren, Davina Steele of Indianapolis, Rene Steele of White Plains, NY, Brodi (Jennifer) Steele of Santa Clarita, CA, Darnell Dixon and Adaila (David) Dixon both of Minneapolis.
Memorial services for June will be held at a later date.
Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
