Wakarusa, Indiana - Jon "Doug" Stahl, age 71 of Wakarusa, passed away early Friday morning, May 15, at Elkhart General Hospital.

Doug was born on June 9, 1954 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Vaughn D. and Jacqueline (Leonard) Stahl.

As a child, Doug's family moved often before settling in Elkhart.

Doug was a 1972 graduate of Elkhart High School and went on to receive his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Indiana University South Bend.

On May 5, 1979, Doug married Judy Roe. Together, they made their home in Wakarusa for the last 46 years.

Doug had many jobs throughout his life.

He served as Wakarusa Police Chief for 8 years.

He worked at Monaco, as a Last Prevention Officer in Michigan, at Oaklawn, and as security at IUSB, where he retired from in 2023.

Doug proudly served his country in the Indiana National Guard for 23 years.

He was active in the Nappanee American Legion Post #154 and served time in the Civil Air Patrol.

He served as a Scout Leader for Wakarusa Boy Scouts #704. Doug was a gun enthusiast and was a member of the Nappanee Conservation Club.

In his free time, he enjoyed completing DIY projects around the house and fishing.

He was a member of the Nappanee Missionary Church and served on the Security Team at church.

Doug was a servant at heart, whether serving at church, in his community, or as a counselor, Doug was always there to serve.

Above all else, he loved his Lord, and was a loving husband, father and papa.

He especially loved doting on his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Doug is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Judy Stahl; 2 children, Amanda Stahl and Jeremy (Alexa) Stahl, all of Wakarusa; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Gay of Monroe, Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Elena, Gabbie, Maverick, Easton, and Scarlette; and 3 siblings, Marc (Kris) Stahl of Syracuse, Brad (Michelle) Stahl of Middletown, Indiana, and Joan (Rodger) Smith of Elkhart.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Josh Stahl; a daughter-in-law, Ashley Stahl; and a brother, Brian Stahl.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, at Nappanee Missionary Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the family for funeral expenses or to the AGC Baby Centre in Kenya (checks made out to Nappanee Missionary Church).
