John A. Stauffer, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, at his home.
He was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Goshen, to Clarence & Magdalene J. (Davis) Stauffer.
On May 24, 1984, he married Cherryl (Loney) Chapman. She survives along with three daughters, Tisha R. (Chad) Edge of Noblesville, Wendy C. (Steven) Wernke of Westfield, and Rita Culp; four grandchildren, Kyle Edge, Robert Edge, Owen Edge, Shawn Roush. Also surviving are two sisters, Elaine (Kent) Overholser of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Donna (Jim) Wininger of Elkhart; three sister-in-laws, Sharon Stauffer, Connie Stauffer and Mary Frye and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and his two furry friends which he loved very much, Buffy and Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Robinetta Hamlin, Barbara Johnston, Floyd Stauffer, Rodney Stauffer and Paul Frye.
John graduated in 1966 from Concord High School.
He loved working on his 1941 Ford Coupe which he showed at many cars shows, especially at the Classic Car Cruise-In at the Essenhaus in Middlebury. He recently attended the NSRA show in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Piss and Moan Hiking Group and the Friday Morning Breakfast Club at Granma's House of Pancakes. John worked at Whitehall Labs for many years, was a supervisor at Environmental Test Systems and worked part time at The Elkhart Truth.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the funeral home. Pastor Jerald Turner from the Dunlap United Methodist Church will preside and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Elkhart County Humane Society or to Indiana Child Advocate (Elkhart County Casa Program), 1000 W. Hively Ave., Elkhart, IN 46517.
