Helene  Slocum

Helene E. Slocum, 54, passed away July 18, after a year-long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 26, 1964 in Goshen, to Kenneth and Brunhilde (Kohrt) Bickel.
On Oct. 9, 1999, in Goshen, she married Allen Slocum. He survives, along with her mother; two children, Amy (Jeremiah) Montgomery and Trevor Bickel; one grandson, Aidan Bickel; three siblings, Kenneth M. Bickel, Tamara Bickel and Timothy Bickel; and one nephew, Hans Bickel.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 3 p.m. celebration of life service Friday, July 26, at Hubbard Hill Estates in the Chapel, Elkhart.
Helene volunteered at Hubbard Hill, was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed going to the casino and yard sales. Most dear to her heart was her family and she was especially proud of her grandson.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Helen was a sweet friend. I worked at medtec with Helen and we got our first grandsons together, within the same week. What a couple of proud grammas we were!

Helen was a great person. I will miss her. I worked with her at Medtec and I always seen her out at Garage sales. I know she will be missed by many. RIP Helen

I worked at Medtec with Helen. I really got to know and appreciate her when we were closing up plant 3. She had a great sense of humor and an honesty that I respected. I will miss her dearly.
