Harvey Glick Obituary

Harvey Glick, age 97, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, March 21, at home.

Mr. Glick was born at home on July 27, 1927, in Eden Township, LaGrange County, to the late Noah N. Glick and Mary Nan (Christner) Glick.

He honorably served his country from 1950 - 1952 in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Harvey painted houses, barns and later automobiles for a living.

He married Jean Marie Byler on Sept. 9, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in LaGrange.

Harvey Glick, some may say ornery and a wee bit stubborn at times, was so lucky to be the love of Jean Glick's life.

Though often a quiet man of few words, when he did speak, people listened. He was funny. SO FUNNY! ...and never forgot a joke.

He was a master of "discussing things" nearly every morning with the guys at the Howe coffee shop. He always said he had to go because if he didn't, they'd be talking about him.

If Harvey wasn't busy bowling or golfing, you would likely find him outside at home gardening, mowing the lawn, feeding the birds, or burning something. Or maybe he'd be inside, tinkering with something in the garage or basement, doing a woodworking project, or playing card games with his family. He was ALWAYS busy doing something!

When he did finally relax and sit down on the couch with Buddy for the evening, you would probably find him with a pen in his hand doing crossword puzzles, or with a remote in his hand watching western movies or his favorite sports teams - The Cleveland Indians or The Colts. You might even hear him yelling at the TV in his gruffest voice. He was definitely the BEST armchair referee!

All who had the privilege of knowing and loving Harvey will miss the bald head in the blue hat and the ornery smile.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jean Glick of LaGrange; son, Scott and Cheri Glick of LaGrange; son, Lennie and Laurie Glick of Fort Wayne; son, Kirby and Kelli Glick of Howe; six grandchildren, Kristy and Michael Zahuranic of Washington, MI; Jeremie and Tiffany Glick of McCordsville, IN; Alicia and Chris Gaba of Boynton Beach, FL; Jeanna and Tabare Rodrick of Delray Beach, FL; Dustin and Kaitlyn Glick of Howe; and Lynne and Derek Stephens of Richland, MI; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaleyna, Lukas, Dylan, Ava, Kooper, Myles, Nora, Paisley, Bristol, Carter, Adler, Grayson, and Rylan; sister, Viola Farmwald of Wolcottville; brother, Gerald Glick of Shipshewana; and brother, Walter and Becky Glick of LaGrange.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Maggie Glick and Ruby Nussbaum; and brothers, Virgil Glick and Stanley Glick.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Friday, March 28, at LaGrange First United Church, 209 West Spring Street in Lagrange.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
