Gene A. Henschen, age 84, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 9:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2025 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born November 29, 1940 in Elkhart to Virgil and Ruth (Yake) Henschen.

Gene was a lifetime area resident. He graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1958. On August 21, 1960, he married Carol Bates at Sugar Grove Church in Goshen. Gene served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Gene was the owner of Henschen Oil in Nappanee, he also served on the Nappanee Smokey Stover Fire Dept and was former chief.. He was a lifetime member of the Bible Baptist Church in Wakarusa. Gene enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a loyal fan of Notre Dame Basketball and Football and also the Indianapolis Colts. Gene and Carol enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers at Lake Wawasee.

Gene is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Renee (Matt) Schwartz, Wakarusa, Rob (Kris) Henschen, Wakarusa, Shelly (Todd) Hochstetler, Nappanee; grandchildren, Madelyn (Jacob) Peattie, Zachary (Madison) Schwartz, Cade (Alise) Henschen, Paige (Jason Cripe) Henschen, Kylie (Joe) Zeltwanger, Kennedy (Nate Newcomer) Hochstetler; great grandchildren, Leo Peattie, Calihan Schwartz; and sisters, Sandra (Jim) Loucks, Nappanee and Karen (Bill) Jessup, Goshen.

Family and friends may call from 4-8, Friday, March 21, 2025 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and also 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service, which will begin at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 22nd at Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa. Pastor David Harper will officiate and burial will be in Olive West Cemetery in Wakarusa with Military Graveside rites.
