Elkhart, Indiana - Gary A. Packer, 74, of Elkhart, passed away at home on May 29.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1951, in Goshen, to Oscar A. and Annabelle J. (Bates) Packer.

Gary graduated from Fairfield Jr./Sr. High School and spent much of his career crafting and installing cabinets and other woodworking projects.

Gary was volunteer fireman of the Jefferson Township fire department.

He was a longtime member of Jefferson Community Church, where he taught Sunday school to both adults and children. His faith also led him to participate in mission trips to Russia and Cuba.

Later in life, while working at ATC in Elkhart, Gary felt called not only to strengthen his own relationship with God, but also to encourage and minister to others in their faith journeys.

Gary was known for his sarcasm, quick wit, and great sense of humor.

He loved being "Pawpaw" and found joy in golfing, music, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.

He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Drake of Goshen, Carissa (Eric) Williams of Middlebury, Stephanie (Paul) Ravenscroft of Elkhart, and Rachel (Ramon) Medina of Goshen; his grandchildren, Rielly, Caleb, Collin, Kirsten, Trevin, Mia, Lindsay, Nathan, Ellis, and Bellamy; and his siblings, Gordon (Cindy) Packer of New Paris, Gloria (Chuck) Wymer of Churubusco, Glenda Packer of Middlebury, and Gwen (Todd) Linn of Goshen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Gregory Packer.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 12, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life immediately following starting at 6:00 p.m., all at Jefferson Community Church, 58915 SR 15, Goshen, Indiana 46528.

Pastor Andy Collins will officiate.
