Gary J. Miller, 66, of Shipshewana, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 9:55 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2020, at his residence after a two-month battle with leukemia.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1953, in LaGrange, to Paul and Ruth (Lambright) Miller. On March 30, 1974, in Elkhart, he married Patricia "Patti" J. Schrock, who survives.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jill (Mike) Cress of Convoy, Ohio; a son, Justin (Crystal) Miller of Middlebury; his five grandchildren, Kaden, Blake, Dylan, Lucas and Morgan; a sister, Gwen (Gene) Newcomer of Shipshewana; four brothers, Gordon (Nancy) Miller of Spindale, N.C., Gerald (Amy) Miller of Middlebury, Glen (Sheri) Miller of Shipshewana, and Gene (Jenny) Miller of Goshen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

Gary started Wana Engine Center/Wana RV Center in 1980 in Shipshewana, where he continued to work until he was unable to because of his illness. He was a member of Shore Church, where he had served in many different aspects throughout his life and was involved with Bible Study Fellowship. He was a member of the Shipshewana Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years, serving as fire chief for eight years. He was involved with the LaGrange County 4-H Fair for many years, serving as president for 10 years. Gary loved running, riding horses and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. The family and funeral home respectively request that attendees wear a face covering during visitation. A private funeral and graveside service will be held by the family. Services will be conducted by Pastors Carl Horner and Nic Raber. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
