Goshen, Indiana - Gary Lee Griffey was born in Grundy, Virginia; and he died peacefully at his home.

He was the son of Holland Griffey and Berniece (Hackney), and later Jetti (Taylor) Griffey, who helped raise him.

He is survived by his children, Don Griffey and Dusty Griffey; grandchildren, Dylan Back, Amber (Griffey) Coffman, and Ashley (Griffey) Young; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Young, Adeline Young, Kingston Coffman, and Ryker Coffman. His sisters, Patty (Griffey) Tucker and Jan (Griffey) McClure; and his half brothers, Keven Griffey and Wesley Griffey also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his birth parents; and his wife, Carolyn Rose (Nichols) Griffey.

Gary worked many years at New Paris Creamery and was a proud member of the Teamsters Union before retiring.

He was known for fishing, playing horseshoes, fixing what was broken, and showing up to help when others needed it.

To his family, he was the one who called everyone "honey." To friends and neighbors, he was the one who gave of himself without asking anything in return.

In the last years of his life, Gary attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Goshen with his son, Don. His faith was quiet, like the rest of him. He believed in action more than words, kindness without fuss, and humility in all things.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 3:00 p.m., at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Goshen. Pastor Tony will officiate the service and welcomes comments from friends and loved ones at the appropriate time.

He has been cremated.
