Erna Maurine Bachman
November 2, 1929 - July 25, 2026
Erna Maurine Bachman passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25. Erna was a resident of Greencroft Goshen Healthcare.
Erna was born into the John and Lydia Roth family on Nov. 2, 1929, near her childhood hometown of Milford, Nebraska. She had four siblings: Norvene, Curtis, Marcille and Auris.
Erna was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; daughter, Shelley; granddaughter, Maria; her mother and father; and four siblings.
Erna married Melvin Earl Bachman from Pomeroy, Iowa, on Feb. 8, 1948. The couple had five children: Nancy Bachman Swartzendruber (Larion), Shelley Bachman Holland (Scott), Anita Bachman Gingerich (Mark), John Bachman (Julie Metzler), Steve Bachman (Brenda Stauffer).
Erna and Melvin had many beloved nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Erna was known for her pleasant and cheerful personality and she always welcomed friends and family for a meaningful chat and possibly a competitive game of Rook or dominoes.
Her children and grandchildren knew that visits to her house would be highlighted by one or more of her tasty homemade treats. Her cookies, candies and pies were truly second to none and the grandchildren were aware of Grandma's tasty creations.
Erna was also an avid reader and she always chose the Bible as her favorite book and her main source of inspiration.
Erna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Erna's memorial service will be held Aug. 22 at Greencroft in Goshen at the Evergreen Assisted Living Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friends and family are welcome.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
