Earl V. Gray
Earl V. Gray, 84, of Goshen, died 1:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.
He was born March 29, 1935, in Lagrange to Vernie and Fay B. (Williamson) Gray. On Nov. 24, 1957, he married Betty Jean (Bryant) Gray and she died May 10, 2011.
Surviving are sons, Cary (Valerie Perry) Gray, Goshen, and Dan (Laurie) Gray, Charlottesville, Virginia; daughter, Amy Gray, Goshen; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice (Larry) League, Colorado, Don (Bonnie) Gray, Michigan, Ernie Gray, Michigan, Emily (Paul) Yates, Florida, and Pauline (Tom) Atwater, Howe; and brother-in-law, Dale Redding, Indiana.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; grandson, Mathew Perry; siblings, Margaret Redding, Mary Winkler, and Mearl Gray; and a sister-in-law, Kay Gray.
Earl served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. He was food service director at various colleges in Indiana and a member of First Brethren Church of New Paris. Earl enjoyed going on camping trips through the Good Sam Club. He was known as Earl the Pearl and handed out Earl Grey tea so people would remember him. He also did ice carvings and was an avid coffee drinker. Earl and Betty were foster parents for quite a few children over the years.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at the First Brethren Church of New Paris, 19076 Third St., New Paris, with the funeral services following at 1 p.m., also at the church. Pastor Jeff Estep will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the First Brethren Church of New Paris.
