Donald Lee Newcomer, 81, of Shipshewana, passed away peacefully at 1:03 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at his residence, after a brief battle with ALS.

He was born Nov. 4, 1939, in Goshen, to Franklin A. and Maxine (Myers) Newcomer.

On Oct. 1, 1960, in Nappanee, he married Nila Nunemaker. She survives.

Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Cynthia (Bradley) Hostetler and Christi (Shannon) Schrock, all of Shipshewana; three grandchildren, Kara Rosentreter, Briana Schrock, Seth Schrock; great-granddaughter, Olivia Rosentreter; sister, Myrna (Richard) Gerber of Shipshewana; and two brothers, Keith (Judy) Newcomer of Howe and Gene (Gwendolyn) Newcomer of Shipshewana.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don had worked at Fan Coach for 25 years and then was a farmer for the next 25 years. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed horses and later enjoyed antique tractors and golfing. He was a member of Shore Church, where he was very active, including serving as the steward of the church property. He also volunteered and served as a board member for Battle Creek Mission.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Shore Church, 7235 W. 100 North, Shipshewana. The family will hold a private funeral service and burial. Services will be conducted by Pastor Nic Raber.

Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.

Memorials may be given to Gideons International or Rainbow Years Learning Ministry.
