Middlebury, IN - Delvin Earl Gangwer, 103, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully with family by his side at 3:20 a.m., on Thursday, July 2, at his daughter's residence.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1923, in Ligonier, to John and Thella (Sparrow) Gangwer.
On Aug. 23, 1947, in Ligonier, he married Katherine O. Miller. Katherine died on Oct. 2, 2006.
Surviving are three daughters, Brenda (Harold) Aldrich of Middlebury, Wanda Brown of Kendallville, Joyce Wheeler of Tyler, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Randy Gangwer; infant daughter, Jari Lyn Gangwer; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; five brothers, Thurlow, Hershal, Merrit, Delois, Delbert Gangwer; six sisters, Lura Alfry, Latice Smith, Geraldine Tracy, Maxine Tedrick, Mary "Eileen" Mynhier, Helen Stanger.
Delvin was a veteran of the United States Army.
He worked in the RV industry, chopped and sold wood, and worked as a truck farmer for a short time.
He loved fishing, hunting for morel mushrooms and ginseng roots, camping with his family, and spending the winter months in Florida.
