Charles E. "Chuck" Vanderveer, 82, Syracuse, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1936, in Grand Valley, Colorado, to Charles and Ester (Hendricks) Vanderveer.
He was a lifetime New Paris/Syracuse area resident who graduated in 1954 from New Paris High School. He served in the United States Army.
He was married Aug. 17, 1956, in Syracuse, to Shirley A. Bell, who survives.
He worked on a farm as a young adult; Burger Dairy in New Paris for two years; as a rural post carrier in Syracuse for 37 years; and Monsanto in Ligonier for eight years.
He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren in New Paris and formerly attended Syracuse Church of the Brethren. He volunteered at Camp Mack and an avid genealogist.
He was survived by his wife, Shirley Vanderveer, Syracuse; daughter, Chris (Tony) Keck, Goshen; son, Michael (Patricia) Vanderveer, Goshen; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Georgia Hammel, Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 20, from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Pastor Dwayne Runkle will officiate.
Private family burial will take place at Syracuse Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be given to the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 20430 C.R. 46, New Paris, IN 46553.
