Billy  Havens
Billy "Joe" Havens, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Bonny, Kentucky, to Clayton and Daisie (Murphy) Havens.
On Jan. 30, 1993, he married Shirley (Nicodemus) Hapner. She survives, along with two daughters, Jolene (Roger) Yoder, Shipshewana, and Rosalind (Ty) Marshall, Warsaw; stepchildren, April (Rod) Hostetler, New Paris, and Sherri Lyn and Randy Hapner, both of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; sister, Ruth (Phil) Hamilton, Elkhart; and brother, Mike Havens, Milford.
Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Thelma (Shaum) Havens; a sister, Betty Ebey; and brothers, Jim, Don, Ralph and Junior Havens.
Joe served in the National Guard for eight years and retired from Johnson Controls after 46 years of employment. He participated in the Johnson Controls Retirement Club. A certified welder, Joe modified and raced sprint cars for many years, traveling throughout the area. He also enjoyed all types of antique vehicles.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Jan. 23, also at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial gifts may be directed to New Hope Pet Rescue, Syracuse, or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
