William Lewis Owen Sr., 76, Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, June 14, at Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born July 3, 1940, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Robert John and Bernice L. (Lewis) Owen.
On Nov. 27, 1958, in Elkhart, he married Ruth Ann Rodewald. She survives along with three children, Sue (Mark) Albert, Middlebury, William (Melba) Owen Jr., Tallahassee, Florida, and Robert (Linda) Owen, Edwardsburg, Michigan; five grandchildren, Nathan Albert, Bradley Owen, Sarah Owen, Jason (Stephanie) Whiteaker and Joe Whiteaker; six great-grandchildren; and his two beloved furry friends, Jada and Chester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, R. David Owen, who passed away in 1968.
William attended Elkhart High School and graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1958. He also attended Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio.
William was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol. He enjoyed fishing, camping, painting and wood carving.
William and his wife, Ruth Ann, were the former owners of the Pizza Shack in Middlebury and Goshen from 1976 to 1987. He was formerly employed in purchasing in the RV industry for many years and retired in 2002 from Genworth Financial, where he sold long-term care insurance.
A celebration of life service for William will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol. Pastor Randy Schroeder from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Middlebury will preside.
Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the service at the church.
