Sarah's Story

Mrs. Sarah Louise Knight Skiles, age 97, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Elkhart entered this life on Oct. 5, 1919, in Knob Noster, Missouri. She was the loving daughter of James Fletcher and Lena Grace Wampler Knight, both of whom preceded her in death.
She attended Woodland Grade School, a one-room school house, serving grades one through 8 with only two in her class. She was a 1937 graduate of LaMonte High School in Lamonte, Missouri, where she was valedictorian of her class of '23.
She met John "Ezra" Skiles at the German Baptist Church in Indiana and was united in marriage at her parent's home in Knob Noster on Aug. 2, 1941. This union of 66 years was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They had lived in Rossville, Indiana, as well as Lafayette and Indianapolis, Indiana. They moved their family to Elkhart, Indiana, in 1950 and lived there until moving to Madison, Indiana, in 2003.
They were members of Locust Grove Mennonite Church and the Olive Mennonite Church. After moving to Madison, they attended the Madison Mennonite Fellowship Church. She enjoyed sewing, puzzles, reading, cooking, especially baking angel food cakes and making noodles. She was a homemaker who loved raising her children, teaching Bible school, spending time with her grandchildren, and taking care of her home. Louise died on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 5:01 p.m. at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Louise will be missed by her loving sons, Marvin Daniel Skiles and his wife Donna of Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Melvin James Skiles and his wife Sandra of Ashville, North Carolina, Dr. William Wayne Skiles and his wife Judy of Madison, Indiana; her loving daughter, Kathleen Kay Turner and her husband Dennis of Huntsville, Alabama; her loving grandchildren, Michelle German (Brian), Sherri Belden (Terry), Kristina Stem (Steve), Mike Skiles, Tamra Shea (Mike), Bryan Turner, Scott Turner (Tracy), Melissa Dean (Casey); her adoring great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kalsey, Kylie and Noah German, Bryce, Brody and Bria Beldon, Samuel, Henry and Gloria Stem, Patrick, Colin, Daniel and Clara Shea, Jared Turner, Olivia and Mason Turner, Liesl and Cooper Dean; her sister, Marianna Patrick of Columbia, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Fletcher Knight, her mother, Lena Grace Wampler Knight, her brothers, James Knight who died in 1992 and Don Knight who died in 1999, her sister, Alice Rose Knight who died in 1956, her infant daughter, Carolyn Skiles, her husband of 66 years, John Ezra Skiles, who died in 2007, and her infant granddaughter, Grace Stem.
VISITATION & FUNERAL SERVICES
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 C.R. 3 near Elkhart, Indiana. A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m., officiated by Andy Ebersole.
