Ronald M. Rhine, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 24, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.
He was born April 3, 1941, in Nappanee, to Maurice and Ruby Rhine.
On Oct. 13, 1979, he married Judith Miller. She died May 28, 2003.
He later married Elnora Kauffman Babin July 3, 2004. She survives along with his mother, Ruby Rhine, Lafayette; stepdaughter, Michele Babin, Fishers; and two siblings, Stanley Rhine, Lafayette, and Joyce Rodman, California.
He was preceded in death by his father and first wife.
A 1959 graduate of Nappanee High School, Mr. Rhine was a deputy with the Elkhart County Sheriff's department and an EMT. He retired from Klink Trucking, where he worked as a dispatcher and driver.
He served with the U.S. Air Force in Turkey from 1963 to 1969.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an extensive collector of antique guns and rifles. He built his own blacksmithing shop on his farm and made his own ammunition. He enjoyed target shooting. He also built model trains and enjoyed collecting model tractors.
His favorite daily routine included going to meet the guys at the Hilltop Restaurant for coffee.
Friends may call Sunday, May 28, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.
Private family burial took place Friday, May 26, at Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.
