Phyllis Jean (Rasler) Zimmerman, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, at Elkhart General Hospital, with her family by her side after an 18-month battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born Dec. 8, 1945, to Donald and Beulah (Stark) Rasler in Elkhart, Indiana.
On Sept. 3, 1965, she married Stephen Ray Zimmerman, who survives with their children: Gary (Lora) Zimmerman of Goshen, Connie (Michael) Molby of Dallas, North Carolina, Terry (Laurie Graham) of Wolcottville, and Stephen (Lisa) of Fort Wayne, along with 11 grandchildren, Brett, Kasandra, Grace, Logan, Kylee, Margaret, Morgan, Anna, Sydney, Ryan and Lucas and one great-granddaughter Ava.
Also surviving are siblings: Marjorie (Donald) Massing of Fort Wayne, Gerald (Karen) of Goshen and Harold (Kathy) of Kansas. Along with many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Phyllis retired in 1991 after 25 years in the office of Whitehall Labs. And then retired the second time in 2013 after 20 years as secretary receptionist for Faith United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Elkhart General Hospital and Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling, reading, word search puzzles, crocheting and sewing. She loved helping others and meeting with her small group from church. Phyllis adored spending time with all her grandchildren, playing games, helping with projects and following their sports or activities.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to an 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, 61115 Ind. 15, Goshen. Pastor Bill Richardson will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
