Phyllis Ann Miller, 87, Sun City, Florida, will be honored at a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Grace Lawn Cemetery, 514 E. Warren St., Middlebury, Indiana.
Born in Mishawaka, Indiana, she was married to Richard D. Miller, former superintendent of Elkhart (Indiana) Community Schools and executive director of the American Association of School Administrators.
Phyllis and Rich met at 17 at Methodist Church camp in North Webster, Indiana. Phyllis attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas, and worked in accounting and bookkeeping for Indiana University, Purdue University and the Elkhart County Employment Office.
After marrying in 1949, she built a successful career and family and had wonderful adventures traveling with family and friends across the globe.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years; daughters, Rebecca Shanahan and Susan Miller Carello (Sam); her grandson, Rory Shanahan (his wife and two children); and her granddaughter, Maureen Shanahan.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Shanahan.
Phyllis passed away Friday, Feb. 10, at Sun City Center Hospice House, Sun City.
