Melody Ann Slabach, 59, Nappanee, passed away at 12:40 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, at her residence, after a three-month illness.
She was born Aug. 19, 1957, in Arcola, Illinois, to Lester A. and Florine (Lehman) Yoder.
Melody was a 1975 graduate of Bethany Christian High School and attended Glen Oaks Community College. She lived in Nappanee since 1978.
On Aug. 27, 1977, she married Philip Slabach at North Main Street Mennonite Church.
She was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Melody had worked in the transportation department at Oaklawn and also worked at North Main Street Mennonite Church Preschool and Union Center Preschool. She was also a youth group leader at Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Melody loved taking pictures of the family, so much so, that she wore out cameras.
She is survived by her husband, Philip; son, Joe (Joanna) Slabach, Elkhart; daughter, Alicia (Jeremy) Kemp; grandchildren, Gracelyn Kemp, Lillian Kemp, Madison Slabach, Kaden Kemp, Erianna Slabach and Addalyn Kemp; brothers, Keith (Linda) Yoder, Goshen, Bruce (Lauri) Yoder, Middlebury, Doug Yoder, Goshen, and Jay (Joy) Yoder, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Davidson will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs.
