Mary Louise's Story
Mary Louise (Mumaw) Kalbfleisch, 90, Goshen, died at 10:12 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.
She was born near Wakarusa Nov. 26, 1926, to Ira Mumaw and Martha (Weaver) Mumaw Leinbach.
She married Raymond W. Kalbfleisch of Levering, Michigan, April 5, 1969. He passed away Dec. 14, 2000.
She is survived by a brother, Lowell Mumaw, Goshen; sister, Gladys Mast, Goshen; half-brothers, Gerald (Lois) Leinbach, Hesston, Kansas, and Russell (Sally) Leinbach, Harrisonburg, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Raymond; stepsisters, Louida Mishler, Irma Shank, Catherine Walters, Fern Yontz and Betty Herendeen; and stepbrothers, Lloyd Leinbach, Junior Leinbach, Kenneth Leinbach and Morris Leinbach.
Mary Louise attended Wakarusa and Waterford grade schools. After attending New Paris High School for two years, she graduated from Hesston Academy (now Hesston College) located in Hesston, Kansas, in 1946. Mary Louise worked at West Liberty Children's Home for several years and also at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka, Illinois. From 1963 to 1967, she was employed as a cook at Goshen College.
After marrying Raymond, the couple lived 5 miles south of Petoskey, Michigan, on Howard Road until 1996, when they moved to Greencroft. For 15 years, they spent winters at their home in Sarasota, Florida.
In 1969, she graduated from North Central Michigan College as a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse at Little Traverse Hospital and Beverly Manor at Geriatric Nursing.
She had a love for music and played the accordion. She was known for sharing secular music and hymns with residents at Greencroft Health Care.
At the age of 13, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. Later on Dec. 12, 2004, she joined College Mennonite Church, Goshen.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Meeting House, 1820 Greencroft Blvd., Goshen, where a service will follow at 3 p.m. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey, Michigan.
