Lucille Mildred (Shupp) Koerner, 84, passed away on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 in Spring Hill, Florida. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on June 9, 1933 to Reba (Greiner) and Howard Shupp. She had three sisters, Marilyn Hess, Lois Murray and Betty Ullery. Lucy was a longtime resident of Goshen, Indiana and Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Lucy met William Lewis Koerner at Goshen High School and they were married on Dec. 30, 1951. William was a U.S. Marine at the time and then had a 25-year career as a pilot in the U.S Air Force. As a devoted military wife, Lucille travelled the nation and had four sons in three different states: Steven and Robin in Indiana, Jeffery in California, and David in Texas.
Lucy's passion was her husband, family and friends. As a mother of four boys, she attended countless sporting events and was quite the outspoken Little League mother. Lucy enjoyed meeting new people and always made her guests feel cared for and welcome. She was quick with her laugh, enjoyed old movies, and had a thing for Clark Gable. She made the best fresh squeezed lemonade for her grandchildren. She made beautiful crewel embroideries which she framed and gave away as gifts. She also made knitted hand towels which she gave away to anyone for a conversation. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
Lucille is survived by her sisters Lois and Marilyn; her devoted husband William; her four sons Steven (Elizabeth), Robin (Carol Ann), Jeffery and David (Mandy); her faux adopted son John Carter; her six grandchildren Christopher Koerner, Kathryn Hughes, Kevin Koerner, Daniel Koerner, Jacob Koerner and James Koerner; and her great-grandchildren Kevin Koerner, Everly Koerner and Jude Hughes.
"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall softly upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
Special thanks to the staff at Atria as well as Jennifer and Karen at Karen's Cottage for their outstanding care of Lucy.
There will be a private celebration of Lucy's life on September 5, 2017 in Spring Hill, Florida.
