David H. Whetstone, 83, Deltona, Florida, formerly of Middlebury, Indiana, died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, May 1, while in Hospice Care.
He was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Elkhart, Indiana, to John Henry and Susie (Hostetler) Whetstone.
On Nov. 25, 1965, in Elkhart County, Indiana, he married Aletha Barbara Miller. She passed away May 12, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorene Adams, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Anita (Wendell) Bradford, Deltona; son, Brandt D. Whetstone, Nevada; two stepdaughters, Annette (Greg) Hubartt, Roanoke, Indiana, and Cherylee Wood, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Millie Whetstone, Middlebury; and brother, John Henry Jr. (Goldie) Whetstone, Middlebury.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Fannie Hochstetler; and four brothers Jonathon, Amos, Joe and Don Whetstone.
David worked at area factories and was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Middlebury. He loved playing the harmonica for family and friends and making everyone smile. His favorite songs were playing and singing "You Are My Sunshine" and "Amazing Grace." He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11 a.m. funeral services Saturday, May 6, at First Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ron Russell.
Burial will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
