Byron K. "Barney" Prough, 79, Shipshewana, died at 6:28 a.m. Sunday, March 5, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1937, in Shipshewana, to Russel and Marjorie (Spreuer) Prough.
On Aug. 24, 1956, in Angola, he married Jacquelyn Kolady, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ann (Jeff) Keenan, Goshen, and Sally (Mart) Ballard, Columbia City; two sons, Todd (Janet) Prough, Nappanee, and Scott (Trish) Prough, Shipshewana; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Frances Prough and Ella Yoder, both of Shipshewana, Martha (Les) Pence, Sheridan, and Mary Lou (Jack) VanAntwerp, Howe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, four brothers, a grandson, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Byron was a Korean War veteran and a retired truck driver who provided Amish taxi service after retirement. He loved playing with his grandchildren and dogs and enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Friday, March 10, also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Byron's son, Pastor Todd Prough.
Burial will be at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Memorial contributions may be given to ARK Animal Sanctuary of LaGrange.
