Bruce A. McDowell, 79, Goshen, died Tuesday March 28.
The Terre Haute native was born Feb. 14, 1938, the first of five children of Arthur and Joan (Neese) McDowell. Bruce graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) and worked for 28 years as a chemical engineer for Miles Laboratories.
On Feb. 21, 1960, Bruce married the former Rose Mary Cox, who survives after 57 years of marriage.
Also surviving are their children, Elizabeth Vandermolen, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laura McDowell, South Bend, and Randal McDowell, Goshen; grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Vandermolen, Grand Rapids, Kyle (Jessica) Vandermolen, California, Sarah McDowell, Warsaw, Andrew McDowell, Goshen, and Kary (Michael) Gregory, Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren, Hollister Vandermolen and Emmerson Gregory; his brother, Philip McDowell, Schererville; and sister, Kathy (Byron) Buhr, Jefferson City Missouri.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Brad and John McDowell.
Bruce's career with Miles took them worldwide, formerly residing in Brazil, Mexico and Germany. He spoke three languages in addition to English. Bruce enjoyed retirement, traveling with his wife in their RV, exploring the Eastern Seaboard and winters in Florida.
At home, he enjoyed gardening, watching football and was an avid fan of the Cubs.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the funeral home.
The family's preferred memorial is the American Cancer Society.
