Betty Louise Goodspeed, 92, of Syracuse, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse. She passed away on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary to her late husband, Vaughn.
She was born April 22, 1925, in Hartford City, to Walter Madison and Gracie Pauline (Spaulding) Dutro. She attended Roll High School
On Aug. 16, 1942, in Hartford City, she married Vaughn Dale Goodspeed. He preceded her in death June 18, 1995.
She grew up and lived in Hartford City, until the mid-1960s and lived a few years in Portage, before moving to Syracuse in 1972.
Betty, along with her husband, were the owners/operators of V. Goodspeed Inc. in Cromwell, from 1974 to 1992. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Martha's Circle in Cromwell and the Wawasee Property Owners Association in Syracuse.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Terry) Shields of Hartford City, and Tammie (Guy) Hursey of Kimmell; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepgreat-grandson; and great-great-grandson; daughter-in-law, Rhonda (Steve) Hurst of Carmel; and sister-in-law, Claretta Dutro of Hartford City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Goodspeed; great-granddaughter, Lauren Shields; sister, Carol Hawk; and brother, Francis Dutro.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home with Pastor Marilyn Gebert and Pastor Tim Terrell officiating.
Committal services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the Gardens of Memory Chapel, 10703 N. Ind. 3, Muncie.
