William L. Thompson


William L. Thompson, 90, passed away Sunday evening, June 9, at Goshen Hospital.
Bill was born Sept. 13, 1928, near Marshall, Illinois, to Ray and Emma (Gard) Thompson.
Following the death of Bill's mother in 1937, Ray married Edna (Romoser) Thompson, together raising their family in Marshall.
Bill married Helen Joan Clark, March 11, 1950, in Marshall. Joan preceded him in death Jan. 5, 2019.
Together, they were loving parents to their children, David A. (Karen) Thompson, Morton, Illinois, Phyllis A. (James) Smith, Goshen, and Jodi R. (Ron) Minor, East Peoria, Illinois.
His careers included Caterpillar, East Peoria, Illinois; Conibear Autobody, Morton, Illinois; and Bob Grimm Chevrolet auto body manager, Morton.
He enjoyed storytelling, family celebrations, reading, gardening, woodworking and the joy of Christian fellowship.
Bill will be fondly remembered by his family of eight grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Atlanta, Georgia, Jason (Andreya) Thompson, Peoria, Illinois, Benjamin Smith, Goshen, Paul (Cheryl) Thompson, Westmont, Illinois, Daniel (Kristy) Thompson, Morton, Illinois, Caleb Smith, Goshen, Gary Shelton, Spring Bay, Illinois, and Sara Shelton, East Peoria, Illinois; and his five great-grandchildren, Eli Thompson, Kaitlyn Thompson, Aubrey Thompson, Olivia Thompson and Finley Thompson.
His siblings include Ed (Mary Lee), Savoy, Illinois; Glen Dale (Patricia), Ridge Farm, Illinois; Ray (Esther), Greenup, Illinois; Robert (Carol), Casey, Illinois; Marcella (Ron) Scott, Marshall, Illinois; Janet Hetherington, Danville, Illinois; Charlotte (Tom) Brown, Marshall, Illinois; Warren (Terry), Montezuma; Melvin (Jane), Marshall, Illinois; Wanda (Rick) Pine, Marshall, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by siblings Herman and Harold Dean.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29, at Pearce Funeral Home, Marshall, Illinois, followed by a memorial celebration of life at 10:30 a.m.
A joint committal service for Bill and Joan will follow at Marshall City Cemetery.
