Virginia Lou


Virginia Lou "Ginger" Bender, 78, Middlebury, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Waterford Crossing Health Center, Goshen, after suffering a couple strokes the past few months.
She was born March 3, 1941, in Goshen, to Richard and Donna (Bailey) Patton.
On June 6, 1959 in Middlebury, she married Mervin T. Bender. He died July 25, 2013.
Surviving are daughter, Linda (Dave) Hamilton, Middlebury; two sons, Randy and Larry Bender both of Middlebury; granddaughter, Ashley Hamilton; grandson, Austin Bender; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Ambrose, Noah Cronin, Harper Cronin.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Sally Stark; and brother, Thomas Patton.
She was a homemaker and a grocery clerk for 15 years at Everett's Supermarket in Goshen. She and her husband chaperoned deaf and blind children from local schools as they were transported to school in Indianapolis for 10 years.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday, May 17, followed by a 6 p.m. funeral service at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Sam Troyer.
Burial will take place at a later date at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
Memorials may be given to Waterford Crossing Health Center.
