Velda Jean Wingard, 56, Shipshewana, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at her residence after a three month battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 4, 1962, in LaGrange County, to Harley J. and Katie (Slabach) Yoder.
On Oct. 22, 1981, in LaGrange County, she married David E. Wingard, who survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are her mother, Katie Yoder, Shipshewana; three daughters, Marla Renae (Steve) Schwartz, Goshen, Myra Elaine (Sheldon) Hochstetler, Shipshewana, Kaylene Ann (special friend Carl Schrock) Wingard, at home; five sons, Lamar Dean (special friend Marci Sandt) Wingard, Anderson, Loren Jay Wingard, Goshen, Gary Lynn (Amanda) Wingard, Wawaka, Karl Ray Wingard and Dennis Lee Wingard, both at home; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Lee (Joan) Yoder and Dewayne Ray Yoder, both of Goshen; three sisters, Karen Sue (Wayne) Miller, Shipshewana, Marilyn Kay (Phil) Miller, LaGrange, and Linda Lou (Wayne) Troyer, Shipshewana.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandson, Lyndon Jay Schwartz; and sister, Ida Fern Yoder.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, and all day Friday, Jan. 19, at the Devon Chupp residence, 950 N. Taylor Drive, Shipshewana.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, also at the Devon Chupp residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Perry Miller and the home ministers.
Burial will be at East Barren Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Arrangements are with Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury.
