Shirley Carpenter, 89, Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse.
She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Syracuse, to Merwood and Ola (Garrison) Ketring.
On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Chester "Bud" Carpenter, who preceded her in death in 1981.
She was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker as well as a receptionist for RTI Transport. She was active in Boy scouts as a den mother, Girl Scouts, and PTA.
She is survived by her son, Gregg (Sally) Carpenter, North Webster; grandchildren, Dorian (Anita) Carpenter, Cromwell, Travis Carpenter, Goshen, Rachell Carpenter, North Webster, Keith (Melinda) Galloway, Georgetown, Mathew, Jonathan,and Adam Norris, all of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Paizlee Carpenter and Kaleb Galloway.
She was also preceded by her daughter, Debora, in 1990.
A memorial service for Shirley will take place Saturday, Jan. 6, from 2-4 p.m. at the Syracuse Eagles.
Private family interment will be at the Violett Cemetery at a later date.
