Samuel A. Troyer, 84, died at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past year.
He was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Reno County, Kansas, to Harry M. and Barbara (Miller) Troyer.
On Dec. 23, 1978 in Tarasea, Florida, he married Joanne Dust, she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Mark (Debbie) Kenn of Oak Forest, Illinois; a daughter, Diane Daly of Middlebury; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Lydia Yoder of Nappanee, Fanny Weirich of Middlebury, Nora (Euell) Elswick of Middlebury, and Dora Graber of Goshen; a sister-in-law, Irma Troyer of Shipshewana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard Troyer, Jerry Troyer, infant Moses Troyer; two sisters, Anna Mae Weaver and infant Mary Troyer.
Sam and his wife lived in Sarasota, Florida, for many years prior to moving to the Bristol area. He was self-employed doing lawn care both in this area and in Sarasota. He had also worked in area trailer factories. In his earlier years, Sam would often go ice fishing and coon hunting with his father. Later, Sam and his wife often enjoyed fishing together. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War and he was a member of the Bristol American Legion Post #143 and the Middlebury American Legion Post #210.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by the Rev. John from Harbor Light Hospice.
Burial with a full military graveside service will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bristol.
Memorials may be given to Harbor Light Hospice.
